A university name on a brochure does not answer the practical question: which legal institution will enrol you and issue the credential? In Georgia, the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) explains higher education institutions must hold authorization to conduct educational activity and issue a state-recognized diploma. Use the Center’s registry to check the institution itself before comparing program promises.
Start with the exact institution
Collect the full name shown on the offer, contract, invoice and diploma description. Search the name in Georgian and English if the first query returns nothing. The Center’s electronic platform announcement says its search covers current higher education institutions and reports licensing, institutional accreditation and authorization history, including authorization expiry dates. A trading name, campus name or translated brand sometimes differs from the registered legal name, so ask the admissions office to identify the legal entity when the match is unclear.
Read the status and dates together
- Confirm you have the right institution, not a similarly named organization.
- Read the current authorization status and its expiry date. A past decision or old PDF does not establish present status.
- Open the underlying Council decision or expert report when the registry links to one. NCEQE says decisions and reports are published on its site.
- Check the separate program page for the exact degree, teaching language, campus, delivery mode and intake you plan to join.
Institutional authorization and program-level accreditation answer different questions. NCEQE describes authorization as an institutional quality-assurance assessment. Ask the institution for the specific program record, teaching language, campus and award wording for your intended course.
Know what the registry does not decide
If you need a qualification for a regulated profession or another country, ask the receiving authority about its own process. Keep a dated copy of the institution record and linked decision. Record former and current legal names when both appear, then use those names in questions to the admissions office.
