Georgia SIM cards and eSIMs: compare local, travel and roaming options
Choose a Georgia travel eSIM, local SIM or home-carrier roaming. Check phone compatibility, number needs, validity, hotspot and top-up terms before you buy.

Choosing a SIM for Georgia comes down to three questions: do you need a Georgian phone number, how long do you need service, and does your phone accept another line? A travel eSIM such as Airalo's Georgia offer is an option to install before arrival. Local SIMs and eSIMs from Magti, Silknet or Cellfie are another route. Your home carrier's roaming keeps your existing line in use, but its Georgia rates and data rules come from your own plan. Compare the current terms before you leave, and keep arrival details available offline.
Compare the three routes
| Option | Useful when | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Travel eSIM | You want to arrange a data connection before arrival and your phone supports eSIM | Which Georgian network it uses, whether the plan includes voice/SMS, when validity starts, hotspot rules and whether top-up is offered |
| Local SIM or eSIM | You want to choose a Georgian operator's plan, and possibly a local number | Number and ID requirements, plan allowance, validity, renewal and how to buy or collect the SIM |
| Home-carrier roaming | You need your existing number to remain reachable, or your trip covers multiple countries | Georgia roaming rates, included data, billing increments, call/SMS costs and any spending limit |
Airalo lists a Georgia eSIM that uses Cellfie and shows separate data-only and data/calls/SMS plan categories. Read the details of the exact package: do not assume every package includes a phone number or that a displayed call/SMS option means a Georgian number. A data-only plan supports internet apps and internet calls but does not replace an ordinary local voice line for calls or SMS verification. Cellfie's own eSIM flow offers a number with a choice of eSIM or physical SIM. Magti and Silknet also publish eSIM and physical SIM purchase routes. Local operator options are worth comparing if you need a local number or expect to stay longer. These are provider offers, not a ranking of network performance.
Check the phone before choosing eSIM
Check the exact model and regional variant in the phone maker's documentation, then confirm eSIM support with the provider. A supported eSIM still needs an unlocked phone to use a different carrier. On iPhone, Apple says the Carrier Lock field should show “No SIM Restrictions” for use with another carrier. If the phone is locked, contact the carrier that locked it before travel. A physical SIM is a practical alternative only if the phone has a compatible SIM slot and is also unlocked. Magti and Cellfie describe Wi-Fi or internet access during eSIM setup; keep a reliable connection until installation and activation finish.
Read the package rules, not only its data amount
Check when the validity clock starts. Airalo says the start rule varies by package: many begin when the eSIM connects to a supported network, while some begin on installation. The allowance is for the full validity period, not a daily allocation. Airalo says a package's remaining validity cannot be extended, and top-up is available only when that eSIM is marked rechargeable. Check the package's additional information before buying. Ask the local operator how its selected package expires, renews or can be replenished. For a home-carrier roaming add-on, read its own fair-use, renewal and billing conditions.
If you plan to share data with a laptop, check hotspot support for the exact package and device. Airalo says tethering depends on both device and network support, and manual APN settings may be needed. Do not count a hotspot as included until the provider's package details confirm it. Keep your home line active only if you need calls or texts there, and choose which line handles mobile data in settings. This avoids treating a data-only travel eSIM as a replacement for your home number.
Plan setup around arrival
- Before departure, check phone model, carrier lock, plan dates and whether the package covers every country on your itinerary.
- Save the provider's installation instructions and support contact. Keep Wi-Fi available for eSIM setup.
- On arrival, select the intended data line and test a web page, a call or SMS if included, and hotspot if you need it.
- Keep your accommodation address, airport route and booking contact offline until the connection works.
Choose a Georgia eSIM
Compare data allowance and validity, then confirm your phone supports the package before buying.
