For seven days, choose one side of Georgia: Tbilisi and Kakheti from a Tbilisi arrival, or Kutaisi and Batumi from a Kutaisi arrival. Fourteen days allow a westward journey from Tbilisi through Kutaisi to the coast. Start with both flight times and count nights before adding stops. The examples below allocate your time. Train seats, rooms and individual transfers still depend on your dates.

One week: Tbilisi and a Kakheti base

Choose this if you fly in and out of Tbilisi and want city time plus a distinct regional stay. Days one to three belong to Tbilisi. Use the first day for your arrival and the address of your accommodation. Give the next two days to neighbourhood walks, museums or food at a pace that suits you. The Tbilisi guide helps you choose those days. An arrival late in the evening is not an extra sightseeing day.

Move to Telavi for days four and five, with a third night there if your departure allows. Telavi gives the regional segment its own base rather than asking you to leave Tbilisi, see several wineries and come back after a long outing. The Georgian tourism authority identifies the palace of Erekle II in town, Nadikvari Park and wine-country sites around Telavi. Pick a town visit and one planned activity outside it. Ask the winery or host for its date-specific visit terms and agree transport before drinking.

Use days six and seven for the return to Tbilisi and departure preparation. Mtskheta is an optional cultural visit from this final base, not a required third hotel. Its named monuments are spread between the town and the hilltop at Jvari, so plan the separate approaches if you choose it. If your outbound flight leaves early, protect the last night and skip the extra trip. If the flight leaves later, you have room to spend time in Tbilisi instead.

This eastern route is a deliberate choice. It leaves Kutaisi, Batumi and the high mountains for another journey. If your main interest is Soviet-era history or the cave town, a Gori day from Tbilisi can replace Mtskheta or one of the Telavi days. Do not add it to an already committed return day. The Gori guide separates the city museums from Uplistsikhe outside town.

One week from Kutaisi Airport: three nights, two nights, one night

For a return flight from Kutaisi, give the first three nights to Kutaisi, the next two to Batumi and the sixth to Kutaisi again. Leave on day seven. This six-night example keeps the cross-region return off flight day. A late arrival still uses the first night, so leave day one for reaching your accommodation rather than attaching a heritage visit to the airport transfer.

DayBase and nightWhat to arrange
1Arrive, then Kutaisi. Night 1 in Kutaisi.Take the airport-to-city shuttle or an agreed transfer to your accommodation.
2–3Kutaisi. Nights 2 and 3 in Kutaisi.Use one day for the city and another for Gelati if visitor access and transport allow.
4Travel to Batumi. Night 4 in Batumi.Book the city-to-city journey, using the station names shown on the ticket.
5Batumi. Night 5 in Batumi.Choose the boulevard and town, with the forecast deciding any beach plans.
6Return to Kutaisi. Night 6 in Kutaisi.Reach the final-night address and settle the next day’s airport transfer.
7Depart from Kutaisi Airport.Work backward from the flight, allowing at least two hours at the airport as the airport recommends.

The airport’s city shuttle leaves from the arrivals exit and serves Kutaisi Tourism Center. Its published timetable examples take 40 minutes. Use the current timetable for your flight and allow extra time between landing and boarding. Tourism Center is the city arrival point, so plan the remaining journey to your accommodation. The airport terminal, Kutaisi city and the airport railway station are three different places.

Find the airport-to-Kutaisi city shuttle

For days four and six, search Georgian Railway’s passenger booking site for Kutaisi and Batumi on the actual travel dates. The railway’s general table lists Kutaisi–Batumi services, but a published route does not establish seats or the station used by a particular journey. Read the origin and destination on the selected result before choosing the transfer to and from each station. Keep the return to Kutaisi on day six in place when booking the final hotel.

Search Georgian Railway by date and station

If the booking portal shows no matching Kutaisi–Batumi city service, try Georgian Railway’s Regional trains search and use its passenger contact page to ask about the regional train, travel date and exact station pair. Not every regional service in the general table is confirmed for sale through the booking portal. Settle this connection with the railway, or arrange a dated road transfer, before fixing the hotels around the journey.

When a direct airport bus changes the plan

Georgian Bus offers a direct Kutaisi Airport–Batumi route. Its Batumi endpoint is New Bus Station, 11 Giorgi Tsabadze Street, platform 14. This is a bus station, separate from the railway station. Search the operator by airport, Batumi and date, then match the selected departure to your flight. The operator advises checking its airport-to-Batumi schedule 12 hours before departure. Do not assume every flight has a matching bus.

Search Georgian Bus airport and Batumi services

A direct Batumi-to-airport return leaves night six in Batumi instead of Kutaisi. Use this variant only when the booked bus and a generous flight buffer fit together. Keep the Kutaisi night if the timing is uncertain. For a rail arrival or departure, the airport says its railway station is 1.8 km from the terminal, connected by a free shuttle. Georgian Railway has used the name Kutaisi Airport for the former Kopitnari station. Match the station label in the booking search, the train and the shuttle. A ticket involving Kutaisi city does not establish an airport-station stop.

Two weeks: Tbilisi, Kutaisi and the coast

Choose this if you want western Georgia as a stay rather than a distant excursion. Spend the first three or four days in Tbilisi. Then travel west and give Kutaisi three or four days, including a city day along the Rioni and a separate visit to Gelati if current access and transport work for you. The tourism authority presents Bagrati above the river and Gelati outside the city focus. Do not put Gelati into a tight station-transfer window simply because both carry the Kutaisi name.

From Kutaisi, move to Batumi for four or five days. Batumi is the coastal segment: its boulevard, older streets and seafront reward a slower stay. A sea-facing trip still needs the local forecast. The tourism authority describes markedly different climates in the Ajara coastal and mountain areas, and the National Environmental Agency publishes forecasts and warnings. Keep an indoor or town-based alternative rather than counting every day as a swimming day.

Reserve the remaining days for the route out. If your flight leaves from Batumi, end there and arrange the airport journey. For Kutaisi Airport, compare the direct Georgian Bus option above with a final night in Kutaisi and a separate airport transfer. For Tbilisi, put the west-to-capital journey into the itinerary before choosing the final hotel. Georgian Railway publishes Tbilisi–Batumi and Kutaisi–Batumi services. Use its dated journey search for seats and station names, then arrange the final airport leg separately.

A stay in Svaneti or Stepantsminda needs nights of its own. Remove other stops to make room, then check the road and choose an alternative if conditions change. The same discipline applies to a rental car. A car may help with several rural stops, while rail may fit the city-to-city spine better. The rental guide shows why your actual agreement, permitted roads, pickup and return conditions matter more than the vehicle label.

Make the route fit your dates

Write the arrival time, first address, each intercity connection and final flight on one page. Check the current operator search or road notice for the travel day before paying for a non-flexible booking. Confirm the weather near departure, especially when an outdoor visit is central to the plan. Keep one uncommitted block near the end. It gives you somewhere to move a missed museum, a wet coastal day or a delayed connection without rebuilding the whole trip.
