Travelling in Georgia with children
Plan family arrivals, room categories, transfers and manageable outings across Georgia using operator and venue information.

A family trip works better when the first night, the next transfer and each outing fit the people travelling. Start with the actual airport and accommodation address. Then decide where a long journey will be worthwhile. Georgia has city gardens, museums and mountain towns, but each asks for a different approach from the room door.
Make the first night easy to reach
At Tbilisi Airport, municipal bus 337 stops outside Arrivals and follows a published route through the city. The airport also lists a taxi at the Arrivals curb with 24-hour service. Compare the bus stop nearest your room with the final walk, especially if you arrive with bags. If you need a particular vehicle, child seat or space for a stroller, ask the transport operator what the booked vehicle includes. The airport page does not settle those details.
Kutaisi Airport names Georgian Bus and Omnibus services aligned with flights toward Kutaisi, Tbilisi and Batumi. Their destination city is not your accommodation address. Check the operator stop, ticket and departure for your flight, then plan the last leg. The airport FAQ says there is no overnight room in the terminal. For a late arrival, establish where your party will sleep before adding an onward journey.
Choose the room, not a family label
A room search should identify the beds and bathroom in the selected category. Village House in Latali, near Mestia, lists twin and deluxe queen rooms with shared bathrooms, while its triple and family rooms list private bathrooms. Its site describes breakfast as optional. Those differences matter more than the property name. Ask for the exact bed setup, bathroom, breakfast arrangement, access route and check-in process in writing. In Tbilisi, Rooms publishes several room categories, so a photograph of one category does not describe every booking.
Treat each intercity move as a booked leg
Georgian Railway publishes passenger and ticket information, including identity-document requirements for children. Check the current train for the date you need, enter each traveller under the correct details, and keep the documents used for the booking available. A train ticket solves the station-to-station leg. It does not arrange travel between the station and a guesthouse. For a mountain stay, agree the onward pickup point and the return before finalising the room nights.
Pick outings with a clear start and finish
In Tbilisi, the tourism authority places the Botanical Garden entrance at 1 Botanikuri Street and describes a steep ascent from the sulfur baths. Its paths pass a pond and waterfall, and it lists an introductory tour at the visitor centre. Choose a section and a turnaround point rather than assuming every path suits a stroller. The Giorgi Chitaia Ethnographic Museum presents houses and yards from Georgian regions outdoors on a slope near Turtle Lake. Ask the museum about the current entrance, route and visit arrangements before treating it as an easy indoor fallback.
Telavi offers a different pace: the tourism authority places Erekle II’s palace and Nadikvari Park in town, while Tsinandali and Ikalto are separate nearby visits. A town day and one planned excursion are clearer than placing every sight on one route. In Stepantsminda, the historical museum is in town but Gergeti is outside it, with an uphill approach. If the mountain outing is the main reason to travel, confirm transport and conditions for that day, and keep a town activity as an alternative.
Book in the order the trip will happen
- Confirm the arrival airport, first-night address, entrance and check-in arrangement.
- Check the transfer from the airport to that address, including the final stop or pickup point.
- Choose one activity for the first full day and verify its current visitor arrangements.
- Add a second base only after checking the connection, room category and return journey.
This sequence exposes a common booking gap: a room and a flight may both be confirmed while the trip between them remains unresolved. Close that gap before expanding the itinerary.
