Start a mountain day with route selection. Choose a named trail, check its grade and starting point, and compare those facts with your group, daylight and forecast. The source’s duration describes its itinerary. Group pace and current conditions change the actual duration.

Check a working route index and route description

The Agency’s trail index lists a Likani Valley route. Its accessible 2014 route description calls Circuit 12 the Likani Gorge Trail and describes a 7-kilometre hike with a 4–5-hour duration, from Likani River Gorge across Chitakhevi ridge to Likani settlement. The park’s visitor page recommends checking in at a visitor centre before a visit. Confirm current route access, registration and transport with park staff.

Check weather and hazard information

The National Environmental Agency provides short, medium and long-range forecasts, along with avalanche and other hazard warnings. Review the current forecast for the route area alongside the nearest town. If a warning, storm or visibility change conflicts with the route plan, choose a lower-risk alternative or postpone the outing.

Georgia Travel’s hiking guide notes snow and ice risks on winter trails and recommends proper equipment and experience for demanding mountain routes. Match footwear, layers, water and daylight to the route information and forecast. A popular trail name leaves its grade and weather exposure unchanged.

Prepare for an emergency before leaving coverage

Georgia’s 112 emergency service receives calls for police, ambulance and fire-rescue response around the clock. The official FAQ states phones need mobile-network coverage for a call to connect. Save the route name, park contact and meeting point before departure. Use 112 for emergencies. Use the Agency or operator for weather and transport questions.

A short pre-departure sequence

  • Confirm the trail start, registration, route status and return plan with the responsible park or local source.
  • Check the National Environmental Agency forecast and relevant hazard warnings.
  • Tell someone the planned route and expected return, then carry the contact details you need.
  • If weather, daylight or group fitness no longer matches the plan, shorten or cancel the hike.

Use the Agency’s working trail index and Borjomi-Kharagauli visitor-centre page to find route information and confirm current access and registration. The National Environmental Agency page supports current weather forecasts and warnings. The mountain guides for Kazbegi and Svaneti add place-specific context.
