Public holidays in Georgia: dates and trip planning
Read the current Labour Code holiday list, separate fixed dates from Easter, and check date-specific services before booking.

A Georgian public holiday is a useful planning signal, not a universal closure notice. Article 30 of Georgia's Labour Code sets out the statutory holidays for employment purposes. It does not publish the operating hours of a museum, bank branch, restaurant, train or tour provider. Check the dates below against your booking, then check the specific service you intend to use. The official final consolidated English text was reviewed on 25 October 2026.
Mark the fixed dates first
The Code names 1 and 2 January for New Year, 7 January for Christmas, and 19 January for Epiphany. March has Mother's Day on the 3rd and International Women's Day on the 8th. April 9 commemorates the restoration of independence and national unity, including remembrance of those who died for Georgia's national integrity. These dates recur in the law regardless of the weekday on which they fall.
May includes Victory Day over Fascism on the 9th, the religious observance and St Andrew commemoration on the 12th, Family Purity and Respect for Parents Day on the 17th, and Independence Day on the 26th. The remaining fixed dates are 28 August, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary; 14 October, Mtskhetoba or Svetitskhovloba; and 23 November, St George's Day. The current Code includes 17 May. Some older travel summaries omit it, so use the legislative text when you need the legal list.
Treat Easter as a four-day moving period
Article 30 separately names Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, the day of remembrance of the dead. Their calendar dates move from year to year. Georgia Travel describes Easter as a major Orthodox observance and notes the tradition of visiting relatives' graves on Easter Monday. This explains why the period matters beyond a single Sunday. When planning a spring visit, locate the dates for the exact year from a current authoritative calendar before buying a timed service. This guide gives no unverified date for a future Easter.
Use the date to ask the right booking question
If your travel day falls on a listed holiday, check the actual departure with the transport operator and the check-in arrangement with your accommodation. If a museum or protected-area tour is the main reason for a trip, obtain its date-specific opening or reservation details before committing to the journey. A holiday can change staffing and demand, but the Labour Code alone cannot tell you which door will be open. Keep one flexible activity for a day when a planned indoor stop is unavailable.
The law also permits the government to designate additional days off by ordinance. A standing list therefore does not settle every future calendar. Cultural celebrations are another category: a local festival or church observance does not become a nationwide statutory day off solely because people celebrate it. Georgia Travel's holiday articles provide background on New Year, Easter and Independence Day; use organiser announcements for the date and programme of any specific event.
For a trip spanning several regions, check the holiday against each booked component rather than applying one assumption across the country. A reserved room, intercity transfer, venue visit and guided route have different operators. Ask each for confirmation using the exact calendar date. The legal list tells you when to check. The provider's current answer tells you how to travel.
