Tbilisi Transport Company has presented the first train built for the city’s metro renewal programme. The ceremony took place at manufacturer CRRC in China. The first completed four-car train is expected to arrive in Tbilisi by the end of 2026, according to the mayor. That is a delivery target, not a start-of-service date. The new train was not yet carrying passengers when the company published its notice on 29 September.

A staged fleet replacement

The wider plan calls for 25 trains: 14 with four cars and 11 with five, or 111 cars in total. The announcement does not set out a full delivery timetable or say when each train will enter service.

What visitors need to know

For now, plan journeys around the existing metro service and check current routes before setting out. When new trains begin carrying passengers, the operator’s service notices will matter more than the factory presentation. Tbilisi’s metro remains useful for crossing the city without relying on road traffic, while buses fill gaps between stations and neighbourhoods.
