A rail journey covers the trip between its named stations. Start with the date and exact departure and arrival points, then plan the transfer at each end. In western Georgia, an airport or regional station often sits away from the city centre a visitor has in mind.

Use the Georgian Railway timetable search for your travel date and route. Read full station names alongside the city heading. For Kutaisi International Airport, the airport says its railway station is 1.8 kilometres from the terminal and lists a free shuttle between them. Check the airport page and operator timetable for your date, then separately plan the transfer between the station or terminal and your accommodation. The same rule applies when your next leg leaves from a bus terminal or another railway station.

Buy and carry the ticket correctly

The operator’s passenger terms say mainline electronic tickets go on sale up to 20 calendar days before departure, except in special cases. Seat availability appears in the live search. Check when your date enters the sales window. Keep ticket details with the identity document used for booking.

Georgian Railway states the named passenger must present a matching identity document to the attendant. The terms also distinguish mainline ticket sales from regional and international services. Check booking instructions for your journey. Local and cross-border services use separate ticket processes.

The operator also limits one online transaction to nine electronic tickets. For a group booking, enter passenger details carefully and keep each traveller’s matching identity document ready for boarding.

Protect the connection at both ends

  • Leave time to reach the departure station from your lodging, especially when the departure point has a similar name to another station.
  • Allow a practical transfer after arrival instead of scheduling a second service immediately.
  • Check luggage rules and accessibility needs with the operator for the train and station you will use.
  • Save the operator’s current schedule and contact details with your booking information.

Select rail based on your route

The official timetable includes intercity services toward Batumi, Zugdidi, Poti and other destinations. Zugdidi is a rail gateway for travellers continuing toward Mestia. Treat the minivan as a separate leg with its own timing and availability. The train ticket covers the rail leg only.

Avoid building the itinerary around a remembered departure time. Schedules, stops and seats depend on the date. Open Georgian Railway’s timetable and passenger terms in Sources before purchase, then confirm the station transfer and onward connection.
