Georgia trip budget and packing: plan from your route
Build a trip budget from live quotes, then pack for your dates and the difference between Georgian cities, coast and mountains.

A useful budget starts with your actual nights and journeys, not a daily average copied from another traveller. A useful packing list starts with the same route. Write down arrival and departure points, dates, each overnight base and the activities you intend to book. Then price the named legs and pack for the places you will reach, not for a single national forecast.
Build the budget in Georgian lari
Georgia's currency is the lari, GEL. Keep one GEL total for comparison even if a flight or hotel quotes another currency. Record the currency shown at checkout, your payment card's conversion and fees, and the date of each quote. The National Bank's indicative exchange rate is a reference, not the rate a card provider must use. Avoid treating a quoted room rate as the whole trip cost.
Price the fixed parts first
- Flights and bags: compare the full ticket for your dates, baggage choice and change conditions. Put a separate amount beside a checked bag if it is not in the fare.
- Accommodation: multiply each property's final nightly total by the nights in that base. Check taxes, deposits, payment timing and cancellation terms at the booking step.
- Arrival and departure: record the airport-to-address route twice if you leave from the same airport. Tbilisi Airport publishes the municipal bus route; compare its current hours and payment method with a dated transfer quote for your actual arrival.
- Between bases: search the train or bus operator for the exact date, stations, class, baggage and booking fees. Georgian Railway points travellers to its journey search and published ticket information. A rental quote needs fuel, parking, deposit and permitted-road terms added before comparison.
- Booked experiences: include entry tickets, guides and any separate transport. The Agency of Protected Areas explains ticket channels for named attractions, but its general page is not a substitute for the current ticket screen.
After those commitments, set your own daily envelope for meals, local rides and unbooked visits. Multiply by days spent in each base, then add a reserve for changes you would be able to pay for. This is a planning choice, not a published Georgian price band. If the total exceeds your limit, remove a transfer or choose a longer stay in one base before trimming every meal. An extra city adds a journey, another arrival and often a different room rate.
Use the worksheet for your own quoted and planned GEL amounts. Enter trip totals for each line, including all travellers if you want a group total. The form does not fetch prices or save your figures.
For a quoted airport transfer, compare the pick-up address, group and bag capacity, waiting time and cancellation terms. For a car rental, compare the full contract, not the advertised day rate.

Pack by place and date
Georgia's tourism authority describes major climate differences between eastern lowlands, the Black Sea coast and mountain regions. Ajara's shore and highland areas differ sharply, even within one region. A summer city forecast will not tell you what to wear for a mountain overnight. Check the National Environmental Agency's city or regional forecast and warnings near each travel leg, then revise the bag before departure.
Use three small lists for a mixed route
- City days: choose shoes suited to the walks you actually plan, day clothing you can layer, a compact rain layer if the dated forecast calls for it, and a bag for documents and charged phone.
- Coast: add swimwear only if the season and your plans call for it. Keep a dry change of clothes and rain protection when the local forecast warrants them. The Black Sea coast is not a proxy for inland conditions.
- Mountain stay: look at the named destination's forecast, elevation and access plan. Add warmer layers, suitable footwear, water and the gear required by your booked activity. A casual viewpoint stop and a full hike need different preparation.
Keep the bag compatible with the transport you booked. Check the airline's baggage allowance, the rail or coach operator's luggage terms and whether a transfer quote has room for every suitcase. Put passport or accepted travel document, required entry papers, insurance policy, booking references, payment method and essential chargers where you can reach them on arrival. Keep a copy of the documents available without a data connection.
Run one final route check
Two or three days before leaving, reopen the operator pages for every journey and the weather authority's warnings for every region on the route. Recheck your first-night address, arrival transfer, ticket baggage rules and any reserved attraction. If a forecast or access condition changes, change the day's plan and packing. Spending on unused gear or a route you cannot take does not make the trip more prepared.
