The National Library of Georgia offers a reference and bibliographic service for readers who need help locating literature, checking book or article details, or choosing the right catalogue and electronic resource. This is a useful next step when a catalogue search returns too many matches, an incomplete citation or an unfamiliar collection. The service page describes the help in Georgian, so prepare your question in writing if you need to explain a specialist topic.
Prepare a research question, rather than a bare keyword
Write one sentence stating what you need to establish. Add the subject, language, date range and any title, author, journal or citation you already have. Tell the librarian whether you need a source, a verified bibliographic detail, a topic bibliography or help using a database. The National Library describes consultations on finding literature, checking book and article details, learning when to use electronic resources and catalogues, and locating thematic or factual information.
Match the question to a reading hall
The official building directory lists a Reference-Bibliographical Division and Reading Hall at Building III, 7 Gudiashvili Street. The directory separately lists the Kartvelology, Oriental Studies, electronic resources, music and audiovisual, Anglo-American literature, German-language literature, wine and other specialist services. Use the named division to plan where to ask, then confirm the current room and availability before you travel. The directory also lists an Interlibrary Loans Division at Building II.
- Bring your reader card. Use the existing catalogue and reading-hall guide for registration details.
- Share a citation or partial title when you have one. Ask whether the reference desk can verify publication details or suggest a specific catalogue or database.
- Ask which reading hall holds the relevant material and whether the source is available in print or electronically. A division listing is a route to ask, not a live item-availability record.
- If you need an item from another library, ask the Interlibrary Loans Division about its present request process. The location directory confirms the division exists but does not publish current eligibility or turnaround.
Keep the research trail
Bring your question, the sources already checked and any incomplete citation. Record the publication details and catalogue references supplied during the consultation so you can continue the search in the appropriate collection.
